Do you intend to run longer and faster? Running for physical fitness is a popular pastime, and calf sleeves may be one tool that runners may use to boost race times and increase endurance.
Studies show that support stockings, or compression stockings or calf and shin sleeves, improve running performance during both short, intense sprints and longer distance runs. These stockings appear to be heavy leg warmers. They're worn within the leg from the ankle to the knee. For additional warmth, runners could add regular running socks along with them.
Just how do these lower body sleeves for runners work? First, they keep runners'calves warm during colder runs, but like compression stockings used for medical purposes, those employed for runners also improve blood circulation and blood flow, allowing runners to run longer and faster. Additionally, compression stockings offer support to the calf and shins, reducing the likelihood of shin splints.
In a single study published in the January 2009 issue of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, middle-aged male runners ran on the treadmill while wearing compression stockings. The German researchers who conducted the analysis unearthed that runners could run longer and had significantly better performance during both sprints (anaerobic exercise) and longer distance runs (aerobic exercise) if they wore the stockings.
